Overall
Positive:
Super close to the sea and easy travel links. Near plenty of cafes, venues and shops. Small patio out back.
Negatives:
Tired and not well insulated. Letting agent tried to spin a yarn about the windows being a protected Edwardian feature, despite every other flat above having new double glazing (managed by other people but obviously disproves their point). This makes it hard to protect from mould due to the contrast between cold and warm temperatures. Windows at the front of the property in the bedroom face the street. It’s very loud with a bus stop right outside and a lot of anti social behaviour at late hours. One of the windows opens a small amount and the other is painted shut. The whole frame is rotted. Really hard to keep it ventilated and keep things safe from mould. The flat flooded due to a flash rainfall and quickly blocked drain, drenching the carpets. These got cleaned but not replaced. It was really difficult to get them to come and address the repairs that came up afterwards. We actually had to enlist environmental health twice to come and inspect the property and make recommendations to the agency. The patio could be nice but there are invasive plants we couldn’t get rid of. Plus the walls around are so high not much light gets in.
Advice for next tenants:
Not great for long term rentals. The lack of light, air or green space makes it very depressing. The oppressive mould and stagnant air isn’t worth it and the landlord is not interested in improving the conditions.
